Wikifunctions:Protection policy

From Wikifunctions

Levels of protection

Full protection

Full protection creation protects, edit protects and move protects a page for everyone except administrators. The page protection can be for a specified time or can be indefinite.

Semi-protection

Full protection creation protects, edit protects and move protects a page for everyone except confirmed and autoconfirmed users. The page protection can be for a specified time or can be indefinite.

Interface protection

All JavaScript, CSS and JSON pages in MediaWiki and User namespace are edit, move and creation protected so that only Interface administrators can edit them. The only exception to this is that a user can edit JavaScript, CSS and JSON pages within their own userspace. For example User:Example can edit User:Example/common.js but not User:FuzzyBot/common.js but an interface admistrator can edit both.

Office action

Sometimes the Wikimedia Foundation may have to delete, protect, blank a page or take other actions without going through the normal site/community process(es) to do so. These changes may be temporary or permanent measures to prevent legal trouble or personal harm and should not be undone by any user.

Types of protection

Creation protection

Creation protection protects limits who can create a page. This will depend on the protection level and will limit creation of the page to users who have the correct user group.

Move protection

Move protection protects limits who can move a page. This will depend on the protection level and will limit moving of the page to users who have the correct user group. By default, fully protected pages are also move protected.

Edit protection

Edit protection protects limits who can edit a page. This will depend on the protection level and will limit editing of the page to users who have the correct user group.

Cascading protection

Any fully-protected page may have protections cascading from it, causing any page transcluded onto the protected page to also be fully protected, overriding the individual protection levels of those pages.

MediaWiki protection

The MediaWiki namespace is protected so that only administrators and users with the "editinterface" right can perform any actions within it.
